Weight Loss with GLP-1 Meds

Updated: May 7

Being overweight is a risk! It increases your risk factors for; heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, liver disease, sleep apnea and certain cancers.

It's not your fault!

As We Age:

We lose muscle mass which slows our metabolism.

Estrogen levels drop which leads to a shift of fat to the midsection which makes weight gain more noticeable and increases your risks, also leads to less lean muscle mass which decreases your metabolism.

Drops in testosterone are responsible for regulating fat distribution and muscle strength and mass resulting in a body less effective at burning calories.

The pituitary gland produces less growth hormone which is important for building and maintaining muscle mass.

We naturally tend to gain weight, about 1-2 pounds per year.

Calorie restrictions and increased exercise can cause your body to fight back and help you gain weight due to GLP-1 and leptin hormones decreasing.

GLP-1/Peptides: Once a week injection (Semaglutide)

Mimic the action of the hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 that our body naturally makes.

They mimic the gut hormones that control hunger and give them back in fairly high amounts, so you don’t feel as hungry.

They also help with “food noise.” Food noise is cravings, thoughts and desires for food that can feel constant and intrusive.

They make you feel fuller and slow down the rate at which food empties from your stomach, which in turn delays the usual hormonal signals to your brain indicating that you need to eat.

So, the effects are twofold, you aren’t as hungry in general, and you may be able to go longer between meals without getting hungry.

You don’t feel as hungry so less likely to overeat.
